Slow news day or liberal bias?

I have never written a letter to the editor before, but Monday's front page feature is so outrageous that I had to try to provide some balance and correct some inaccuracies. First, since when do two people with signs constitute a protest? In a city of this size, a protest of two people isn't even close to being statistically significant. The fact that they couldn't even convince additional people to join them even though they had made additional signs should tell you all you need to know about their message.

Yet, the Reflector chose to honor them with a front page article, picture and large headline. This is a mini-version of what the national media does every day, giving the anti-war movement more significance than they deserve and trumpeting their message while ignoring the other side.

As for the protesters, a couple of corrections are in order. Josh Devaney claimed that "the national media covers up the protests that are taking place all over the world." Actually, all one needs to do is turn on any of the elite media and bad news from Iraq leads the newscasts and front pages. Good news is never reported upon and protests are inflated and given sympathetic coverage.

Shame on Devaney. His brother served in Iraq. Yet, he dishonors him and all the men and women in uniform who are fighting for peace in the Middle East. Their sacrifices will bring stability to that troubled part of the world and a stable Middle East will in turn benefit the entire world. Has he forgotten Sept. 11, 2001? It is the radical terrorists that perpetrated that horrific act that we are fighting over there.

And, yes, if we didn't fight them there we eventually would have to over here and they are trying to make that happen even as Devaney puts on his silly protest. Maybe he should go to Fort Dix with his extra signs.
