Toast the Norwalk Trucker football team for winning Friday night 28-24 over Bellevue. It was the first time the Truckers have won in Bellevue since 1949. That's 58 years without a victory ... that's a long time. There was a lot of pressure on this team to break that streak, and they stood tall in the end to hold off the hard-charging Redmen. Now that that's out of the way, the Truckers can focus on homecoming and the Upper Sandusky Rams on Friday night. From there they can work on a winning season their first since 1977.
Roast (this is a tough one) Cleveland's favorite son LeBron James. With the Cleveland Cavaliers opening training camp today, James is in the news for all of the wrong reasons. As he prepared for his gig on "Saturday Night Live," he sported his New York Yankees hat and dissed the hometown Indians, who are preparing to play the Yankees in the first round of the American League playoffs. C'mon LeBron. You of all people should know better. This town backed you 100 percent in your playoff run last year ... suck it up and keep your Yankees hat at home.
Toast local law enforcement officials as they continue their assault on drugs in Huron County. More and more we are reading about pot busts around the area. The latest eradication was near Ohio 4 and Ohio 269 near Bellevue and it netted 177 plants. It may not sound like a lot, but they all add up. The war is on and anything no matter how big or small helps.
Roast all of the senseless campus shootings, including Sunday's at Memphis State University where a member of that school's football team was shot to death. The man had apparently walked out of the dormitory where he lived and was in his car when the shooting occurred. The car ran into a tree a short distance from the campus. Classes for today were canceled, said university police. This is the third campus shooting in less than a year and we hope this isn't turning into a "copycat" crime.
