Roasts & Toasts

Norwalk Reflector Staff • Oct 29, 2015 at 12:02 PM

Toast the Missouri Tigers and West Virginia Mountaineers for graciously stepping aside and allowing THE Ohio State University Buckeyes to play for the national championship Jan. 7 in New Orleans against LSU. After losing to Illinois and dropping to No. 7 in the polls, the Buckeyes set their sights on beating Michigan and playing in the Rose Bowl. They beat Michigan, then sat in the clubhouse for two weeks and watched everybody ahead of them drop like flies. Unlike last year when the heavily-favored Buckeyes were trounced by Florida in the title game, Ohio State goes into this year's contest as an early five-point underdog. No respect. This year the Buckeyes have something to prove.

Toast the efforts of the Main Street Norwalk officials for Saturday's uptown holiday kickoff. The visit from Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland helped liven up the festivities, while Santa Claus was there for the children. It's too bad they had to scrap the parade, and we have to roast the lack of support for the uptown efforts. Where are all of the businesses and politicians who line up for the Fourth of July parade? Isn't there one school band out there that would like to participate in a parade? We thought everybody loves a parade.

Roast the vandals in New London who caused at least $1,500 worth of damage to holiday decorations. The damage ranged from lighting strings being destroyed to large inflatable globes being slashed. We roasted New London vandals earlier this year for damaging a war memorial statue in town. What's up with that? Don't kids have anything better to do?
