A group of cyclists from the District 6600 Rotary Tour for Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad Project (MESA) were welcomed Friday afternoon for lunch at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
The group was on the final leg of a six-day, 400-mile bike ride that began Sunday in Elyria and finishing there late Friday afternoon.
This is the third straight year the club has participated in a fund-raising bike ride.
Several members of the Norwalk Rotary Club rode to greet the cyclists in North Fairfield and joined them in their trip to FTMC.
Dr. Thomas Herberger, an orthodontist from Elyria, has participated in all three rides. He said all money raised goes to shipping supplies to third-world countries. All the supplies, including some from FTMC, are donated.
The supplies are used and have been replaced, Herberger said. The club takes whatever it can and gets it to people in need.
The goal this year was $50,000.
“It’s one of the few projects where our members can actually see the results,” Herberger said.
