READERS FORUM - Was bar story really necessary?

Is it even newsworthy?
A troubled underage runaway tells her mother that she was drinking at a bar. It is a story that I have heard before and was never true.
It is a story told to deflect anger to someone else. It is a story concocted to protect the real source of their drinking.
So, why was an unsubstantiated second-hand allegation developed into a front-page lead story? Was the writer bored? Did the paper have no news to print? Does the paper have some sort of vendetta?
Whatever the reason, this is only one of many times that this paper has misrepresented the facts about the target establishment.
Your paper is becoming less of a "Reflector" and more like the "Enquirer."
