READERS FORUM - Needs of disabled people being ignored during uptown events

I work in a professional office in uptown Norwalk. Community-oriented activities like Thunder in the Streets are fun and positive events for uptown Norwalk. However, blocking access to my employer's office is devastating to the elderly and disabled who need to keep their appointments.

Transportation for Senior Enrichment had to cancel one appointment because they couldn't get their client close enough to our office. Another driver trespassed in a private parking lot so their elderly, disabled rider only had to walk 1 1/2 blocks with his cane. I don't know the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, but it seems, at least in spirit, that ignoring the needs of the disabled during these uptown events is a violation of their rights.

Though these uptown events may have been a wonderful venue 30 years ago, it seems that there are other locations with adequate parking that would better serve all the citizens of this community.
