OUR VIEW - Be good Samaritans in weather like this

Good news! Pitchers and catchers report today to Spring Training in Winter Haven, Fla.

Now the bad news. We're stuck back in Ohio following Mother Nature's latest punch to the gut.

Schools were closed Tuesday because of what was coming. Wednesday they were closed because of the 14 inches of snow we got not to mention the six-foot drifts with the high winds.

But let's not forget. This is winter in Ohio. We've been through it before and we'll go through it again.

Despite all of the closings and inconveniences the last couple of days, there are plenty of good stories to report. Tough times always seem to bring out the best in people.

We got a couple of those messages Wednesday.

Frances McKisson, who lives on Williams Avenue, called to say she was impressed that residents took it upon themselves to clear the sidewalk and street Wednesday morning. She estimated about 10 resident volunteered to clear the street and sidewalk, and were not getting paid for it.

And then there was this from Deb Reed:

A big Toast to Reflector photographer Lou Reda for being such a good Samaritan and picking me up on Benedict Avenue as I was "hoofing it" to the Medical Center this morning and transporting me the rest of the way!

And there are plenty more stories like this we don't hear about.

Remember, if you have some elderly friends or neighbors give them a call and see if they are all right.
