WAKEMAN — A Vermilion man was arrested late Tuesday afternoon after an eight-mile pursuit that started in Wakeman and ended in Lorain County.
Matthew R. Machock, 25, is accused of passing another motorist recklessly at speeds more than 55 mph and failing to stop for a stop sign, Police Chief Tim Hunker said. The eight-mile pursuit began on East Main Street in a 35 mph speed limit zone when Officer William Hodge checked Machock’s license plate and determined the suspect was wanted on a felony warrant, police said.
The Vermilion Police Department issued a theft warrant Tuesday in connection with a stolen vehicle incident, police said. Machock eventually surrendered on Baird Road, north of Becker Road in Lorain County. The state Highway Patrol assisted Hodge during the pursuit.
Machock was charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license. He currently is in custody at the Huron County Jail.
