MILAN — A Norwalk man must post a $50,000 bond before being released from the Erie County Jail in connection with a domestic altercation at a North U.S. 250 motel.
Erie County sheriff’s deputies responded to a fight in progress at 12:27 a.m. Sunday. Mark L. Stanford, 44, of 30 Ontario St., told Deputy Greg Hall he had consumed four to five beers and slapped his son, 16, when “he attempted to get his son to come home with him.” The man said he earlier had gotten a call from someone to pick up his intoxicated son from the motel.
Stanford also said he hit a 27-year-old Wakeman man “with a closed fist” after the witness “jumped him from behind,” Hall wrote in his report. The deputy found a loaded, two-shot handgun in Stanford’s red Dodge pickup truck, which the suspect said he took from his wife, “due to her being on probation.”
“It should also be noted that all the subjects involved were part of a wedding party,” Deputy Keith Kuluris wrote in his report.
Stanford was charged with domestic violence and assault. He also faces one count each of carrying a concealed weapon, using a weapon while intoxicated and improper handling of a firearm in a vehicle.
Capt. Paul Sigsworth said the assault charge could be increased to felonious assault because one of the victims has a “fractured orbit in his eye.”
