Northern Ohio Rural proposes water service to Huron County communities

Northern Ohio Rural Water proposes to extend water service to residents of Green Creek Township in Sandusky County, Adam and Thompson Townships in Seneca County and Lyme, Ridgefield and Sherman townships in Huron County.

The USDA, Rural Development utilities programs (Rural Utilities Service) has received an application for financial assistance from the Northern Ohio Rural Water Association. As required by the National Environmental Policy Act, the Rural Development utilities programs (Rural Utilities Service) has prepared an Environmental Assessment that evaluates the potential environmental effects and consequences of the proposed project. This notice announces the availability of the Environmental Assessment for public review and comment.

The proposed project consists of the installation of about 369,000 linear feet of 4 thru 8-inch water lines, a 400,000 gallon water storage tower and appurtenances. Mitigation measures for the proposed project include, but are not limited to, items to minimize the effect to farmland, floodplains, cultural resources, wetlands, biological resources, water quality, air quality, noise, transportation and solid waste. The alternatives considered to the proposed project include: new water supply, regionalization and a "No Action" alternative.
