MONROEVILLE The Monroeville Police Department has "a couple people of interest" in connection with the investigation of the break-in at Cold as Ice Slide Thru early Friday morning.
"No arrests have been made as of yet," Sgt. Frank Gleason said. "It's still under investigation."
The suspect(s) broke into the North Main Street convenience store through the rear overhead door sometime between 3 and 5 a.m. The perpetrator(s) are accused of stealing an unknown amount of cash and one of the surveillance tapes. Police are reviewing a second surveillance tape.
"They're doing inventory and trying to figure out how much cash was stolen," Gleason said.
Capt. Jim Bond said he was notified of the break-in when he was home about 5:45 a.m.
Officer Wallace Johnson responded to Cold as Ice after Huron County sheriff's dispatchers received a call about a burglary progress. He reported both cash registers had been "disturbed, tampered with and seriously damaged" and there was a small amount of glass on the ground outside the west overhead rear door.
There also was heavy damage to the office door. Johnson said it appeared "a hammer was used to work the door and dead bolt lock," pushing the door and nearby wall back about six inches.
Police called the Ohio Bureau of Identification and Investigation (BCI&I) to process the scene. The BCI&I agent analyzed the scene and collected evidence for more than 21/2 hours, Johnson wrote.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call (419) 465-2345.
