Need grows while donations fall short

Remember when one of the sure signs that Christmas was on its way was The Salvation Army's red kettles and the sound of ringing bells on the streets?

Like most things time brings change. And instead of the kettles and bells we have red boxes and the "thank yous" of volunteers willing to give a few or many hours.

No matter what change brings, the mission of the Army does not. There were more than 1,200 applications for assistance this year. Such an increase over past years has stretched the money allotted for this effort. While the need is great the donations so far have been down.
