A Wakeman woman is listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit of a Cleveland hospital after a motorcycle accident late Sunday night in Erie County.
Virginia G. Frank, 44, of 12815 Ohio 113, was heading south on Angling Road when she failed to negotiate a curve to the left and went off the right side of the road about two-tenths of a mile south of Harrison Road. Trooper Chris Capizzi of the Sandusky post said in his report Frank's 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle hit a driveway apron, went airborne and slid on its left side until the bike stopped partially in the road.
A medical helicopter flew Frank, who was not wearing a helmet, from the scene with incapacitating injuries to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The bike sustained moderate damage.
Capizzi said he suspects alcohol was a factor in the crash because a responding Erie County sheriff's deputy detected the odor of alcohol on or near Frank. A dispatcher said troopers took a blood sample, which has been sent to the patrol's general headquarters. Results could take up to two weeks.
The dispatcher said charges are pending in the ongoing investigation.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office, Citizens Ambulance and the Florence Township Fire Department assisted troopers at the crash site.
