Lapatea wine-tasting event

The Lapatea restaurant in Norwalk will hold a wine-tasting event, featuring free wine and Lapatea food. This is a reservations only event, and tickets are $6 each. The ticket fee covers the cost of the food. Call (419) 663-1310 for more information.

EHOVE audit report available

AVERY EHOVE Career Center has available for review the fiscal year 2006 annual audit report in the EHOVE Board of Education Board Offices, 316 W. Mason Road, Milan, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Salvation Army benefit

AVERY The Norwalk Salvation Army will present an evening of dinner, musical entertainment and a silent auction at 6 p.m. May 4 at the Colonnade Banquet Facility in Avery.

The purpose of the event is to raise money for Salvation Army programs such as the Learning Zone, the monthly soup kitchen, the summer lunch program and The Christmas Castle.

The event, which wasn't held last year, netted $15,000 in 2005.

The cost for the evening is $50 per person.

The band Guitars Unplugged (Classical Guitars) will perform, while auctioneer Jim Ewell Jr. will conduct bidding. Available items will include a week in a Hilton Head condo, a plush bear rug, customized chocolate cake, a Cleveland Indians package with four game tickets, and 18 holes of golf/cart at Eagle Creek Golf Course.

You have a choice of chicken or beef for dinner. The evening's speaker will be Lt. Col. William LaMarr, divisional commander of the Northeastern Ohio Salvation Army.

Shopping spree winners

Ann Snow, of Norwalk and Barb Litell, of Huron, each have won a $25 shopping spree for themselves and one for a friend or family member in the IGA Shopping Spree Sweepstakes.

Snow and Litell registered to win the shopping sprees Schild's IGA during last month's IGA Shopping Spree Sweepstakes event at Schild's IGA in Norwalk.

The IGA Shopping Spree Sweepstakes was the first event in the year-long IGA Family, Friends & Food campaign, a national marketing program that offers shoppers savings on favorite brand name products, and the opportunity to win valuable prize packages. A host of famous brand name manufacturers are sponsoring the event, including Anheuser-Busch, Inc., Campbell Soup Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Coca-Cola Hydration Business Unit, ConAgra Foods, Inc., Georgia-Pacific Corp., The Hershey Company, Kraft Foods, Nabisco, Nestle USA, Nestle Purina PetCare Company, The J.M. Smucker Company and Unilever.

Contest seeks area poets

A $1,000 grand prize is being offered in a special religious poetry contest sponsored by Christian Fine Arts Society, free to everyone. There are 50 prizes in all, including a $1,000 grand prize, totaling more than $4,000.

To enter, send one poem of 21 lines or less to Free Poetry Contest, 1012 Beechwood Drive, Nappanee, IN 46550. Or enter online atwww.freecontest.com. The deadline for entering is April 21.

"We think great religious poems can inspire achievement," said Lavender Aurora, the organization's contest director. Poems may be written on any subject, using any style, as long as there is a spiritual inference. A typical poem might be a love poem, or poem of praise, one that inspires the reader.
