Fisher-Titus Home Health Center's team is among America's Elite in home care for the second year in a row. The local Home Health Center recently was named to the 2007 HomeCare Elite, a compilation of the most successful Medicare-certified home health care providers in the United States by Outcome Concept Systems (OCS), a national health-care outcomes reporting agency.

"We applaud the success of all the providers named to the 2007 HomeCare Elite," said Bill Bassett, senior director of market strategy at OCS, Inc. "Being noted as one of the top performers in the nation in this very competitive environment shows that Fisher-Titus Home Health Center is dedicated to quality and performance."

This annual review identifies the top 25 percent of agencies, ranked by an analysis of performance measures in quality outcomes, quality improvement and financial performance.

"Fisher-Titus Home Health Center was the only agency in the area to achieve this accomplishment," said FTMC President Patrick J. Martin. "This recognition was possible only through the dedication of our employees and speaks to their commitment - and that of the entire organization to provide quality care on a daily basis."

FTMC's Home Health Center has been providing skilled compassionate care to patients in the comfort of their own homes since 1985, said Debbi Cullen, operations manager of the Home Health Center.

"Through our services, registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, medical social workers and physical, speech and occupational therapists are available to serve patients' medical needs in their own homes," Cullen said.

Fisher-Titus Home Health Center employees are joining home health care providers across Ohio and the nation in marking November as National Home Care and Hospice Month.

Twenty-five staff members, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, aides, medical social workers and other support staff in clerical, billing, information systems and coding, are employed at Home Health. Therapists from FTMC's rehabilitation department also make home visits. In 2006, more than 14,100 home health visits were made by the team.

"Home care allows patients of all ages to be cared for in their home environment, regardless of their medical condition, so that they can be close to their loved ones," Cullen said. "During this month and every month, we honor our patients and recognize the staff for their significant commitment to care for those patients."

FTMC's Home Health Center is a fully certified provider of home health services. The agency is certified by Medicare and the Ohio Department of Health, and is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. It is a member and adheres to the professional standards of the Ohio Council for Home Care and the National Association of Home Care.

The Center serves a geographic area that includes Huron, Erie, Sandusky, Lorain, northern Richland and northern Ashland counties.

According to the Ohio Council for Home Care, the number of Ohioans seeking home care services is growing steadily, and the demand for these services is occurring at the same time as there is increasing pressure on states to rein in Medicaid spending. Various Home and Community-based Waivers in the state currently have waiting lists.

While home health care is commonly thought of as a program for aging seniors, many patients are infants, medically fragile children, working-age adults and MR/DD patients. Home care provides health care services to Ohioans from infancy to the geriatric population, Cullen said.

Home care services are paid for by both public and private sources including direct payments from patients and families, private insurance and state and federal programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Many services in Ohio are available through state agency funding streams, including the PASSPORT program for seniors and Medicaid and MR/DD programs for other Ohioans.

The FTMC Home Health Center is located at 272 Benedict Ave. and can be reached by calling (419) 668-8101 or (800) 589-3862.
