Last season, you might have heard Beethoven's Fifth. This weekend, you're invited to get to know his Seventh.
The Firelands Symphony will present a classical concert titled "Beethoven's Seventh Symphony" at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Lorain Palace Theatre; 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Adams Jr. High School in Sandusky and at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center in Norwalk. The program will feature Rossini's Barber of Seville Overture; von Weber's Andante and Ungarese for viola and bassoon (FSO principals Monica Gregory, viola, and Lisa Wasserman, bassoon); Borodin's Polovetsian Dances; and Beethoven's Seventh Symphony.
Guest conductor, Pierre van der Westhuizen, assistant Professor of Piano at Heidelberg College, will lead the orchestra.
Westhuizen has performed as a pianist with his wife, Sofia Grobler, across the USA and South Africa. They have most recently been accepted into the prestigious PianoTexas/Cliburn International Academy and Festival- the first duo team to have achieved this honor. His conducting experience comes from the Paris Conservatoire, where he was a student of Eric Kayayan (assistant to Arturo Toscannini).
