Firelands Symphony Orchestra to conclude this weekend

The Firelands Symphony Orchestra will close its 24th season this weekend with "Bright Stars: Winners of the 2007 Young Artists Competition."

Winners were selected from a field of 80 competitors in a three-day competition in January. The soloists range in age from 12 to 21 and are students of the leading teachers in the most acclaimed music schools in the world.

Selections will include Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat major, played by Stephanie Lee; Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Minor, performed by Chad Hoopes; Elgar Cello Concerto in E Minor, played by Emma Bobbs; the Griffes Poem for Flute and Orchestra, performed by Mary Matthews; and the Prokoviev Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major, played by HanQing Zhou.

The performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at The Wesleyan Village in Elyria; 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sandusky State Theatre and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center in Norwalk.
