No one wants to think about end of life issues, such as advanced directives, living wills and funeral planning. Yet, it is something that everyone will face eventually.
That is why Fisher-Titus Medical Center is teaming up with Evans Funeral Home in Norwalk to offer an “End of Life” seminar to the community at 7 p.m. June 19 at FTMC’s Norwalk meeting rooms A and B, 272 Benedict Ave., Norwalk.
“Advance planning with any situation is better than crisis planning,” said Sharon Harwood, FTMC risk manager. “When you are already under the stress of having a family member under a terminal diagnosis, you are trying to process so much information. It is helpful to know and have the discussions in advance about what a patient wants and doesn’t want and identify who he or she wants to lead the discussion if the patient can’t.”
Speakers will include Harwood, FTMC social worker Rebecca Hoyt and John Evans of Evans Funeral Home. The group will discuss the difference between advanced directives and living wills; selecting assisted living vs. nursing home and benefits of pre-planning a funeral. Advance directive booklets will be available.
