Lorain County Health Commissioner Kenneth G. Pearce urges residents to prepare themselves for emergencies. "Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere," reminds Pearce.
There are certain things you can do to prepare yourself for any disaster, natural or man-made such as:
1. Pack an emergency supply kit: medical and contact information, water, non-perishable food, first aid and hygiene supplies, medications, weather radio, batteries, blankets.
2. Make a family emergency plan: meeting places, escape routes.
3. Be informed about different kinds of emergencies and how to respond to them: tornadoes, floods, fires, power outages, winter storms, pandemic illnesses.
If disaster strikes your community, you might not have access to food, water, or electricity for some time. By taking time now to prepare emergency food and water supplies, you can provide for your entire family. "These activities create a culture of preparedness and can help save lives," continues Pearce.
