Aaron Phillips of Norwalk is the president of the Baldwin-Wallace College Marching Band. The B-W Marching Band was revived last year, following a more than 30 year absence. The organization's return was made possible by Del Spitzer '51, an alumnus and longtime trustee of the college. Kenneth Mehalko '61, directs the 90-member band.
Phillips, son of Tom and Carol Phillips, is a senior at B-W and is majoring in public relations. Along with being president of the marching band, he is secretary of B-W's student senate, the public relations chair of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, and works in B-W's admissions office. Phillips graduated from Norwalk High School in 2004.
Kelsey Rice, is a junior at Appalachian State University. She was born and raised in Norwalk until she moved to North Carolina 10 years ago. She still keeps in touch with many of her Norwalk classmates, and has heard from many more since the big win over Michigan. She reports that campus has never been so much fun. T-shirts blasting Michigan are selling out as soon as they are printed, many being shipped to Big 10 schools. They have had a parade of national news crews on campus, and the home games are sold out.
As she told her aunt, Sandy Nickoli who is a Michigan fan, "campus smells like burned wolverine." The win is especially exciting for Kelsey and her roommate Danielle, as they are both Ohio girls.
In other college news, Rice lived in Los Angeles this summer working an internship for a celebrity public relations firm. She worked the red carpet, and back stage for the daytime Emmys and the ALMA awards. She will be flying back to work the prime time Emmys. She has been offered a full-time job at the firm after graduation, but hasn't made any decisions yet.
Kelsey is the granddaughter of Bill and Sharon Betschman of Norwalk, and has many other Norwalk relatives.
