Milan natives Shelly A. (Schnee) Scheithauer and Kelly M. Schnee were named to the dean's list for the fall 2006 semester at the University of Cumberlands.
The sisters are 2003 Edison High School graduates who have competed in cross country and track at Cumberland.
Shelly, who married Thomas John "T.J." Scheithauer on Dec. 30 in Norwalk, is finishing an undergraduate degree in mathematics education. She and her husband reside in Williamsburg, Ky.
Shelly and Kelly are the daughters of Roger Schnee of Milan and Sandy Coffman of Milan.
Jessica H. Hansen, daughter of George Hansen of Norwalk, has been named to the dean's list at Otterbein College for the 2007 winter quarter.
Students must be full-time with a grade point average of 3.60 to qualify for the dean's list.
Krista West, a senior at Norwalk High School, has been accepted into honors college at The University of Akron, beginning with the fall semester. She will be majoring in political science. Krista has been awarded a $3,000 presidential scholarship and an honors scholarship for $300 both renewable each year.
Megan K. Knechtges, of Milan, and Caitlin L. Bement of Wakeman, were named to the Slippery Rock University, in Pennsylvania, dean's list for the fall semester 2006 (ending Dec. 15).
To qualify for the SRU dean's list, a student must earn a 3.5 grade-point average or higher on a four-point scale while taking 12 or more grade hours of course credit.
Sabrina Featheringill of Willard High School and Lucas Smith of New London High School each received $1,250 scholarships in the local contest sponsored by Firelands Electric Cooperative for high school seniors.
Sabrina is the daughter of David and Agnes Featheringill, of Willard, and plans to study animal sciences at Ohio State University's Agricultural Technical Institute.
Lucas is the son of Joyce and Nathan Myers, of New London, and plans to study music education, but is undecided on where he will attend college.
Kyle Cramer of New London High School received a $1,000 scholarship as a third-place winner. He is the son of Kevin and Laura Cramer, of New London, and plans to attend Kettering University, where he will study mechanical engineering.
Fifth-place winners of $500 each are Andrea Chase and Taylor Held, both of New London High School. Andrea is the daughter of Mark and Terrie Chase, of New London, and will study civil engineering, but is undecided on where she will attend college. Taylor is the son of Michael and Mary Kay Held, of New London, and plans to attend Kent State University, majoring in architecture.
