Steuben UCC

STEUBEN Sunday is the Tenth Sunday after Pentecost. The scripture lessons, based on the theme "Loving God Back," are Hosea 11:1-11; Psalm 107:1-9, 43; Colossians 3:1-11; and Luke 12:13-21. The Rev. Patricia E. Welch, pastor and teacher, will lead worship during the 11 a.m. service.

"Baron Frederick William Augustus von Steuben," major general of the Continental Army, will attend worship and the annual church picnic as the guest of honor. General von Steuben was an elder in the German Reformed Church, one of the predecessor denominations of the United Church of Christ.

Norwalk Church of Christ

Sunday morning will feature a lesson called "Stumbling Blocks to Faith: Me" at 10:30 and Sunday evening will continue an examination into the churches of the New Testament by looking at Philippi at 6. The church also has Bible studies for all ages at 9:30 a.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Wednesday. The church will have a booth at the Huron County Fair. First Congregational UCC

Wakeman Congregational

WAKEMAN The church, located at 14 Abbott St., is serving a barbeque chicken dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today. The grilled chicken with its secret sauce will come with potato salad, baked beans, rolls, butter and homemade pies and other desserts for $8 for adults and $4 for children 3 to 10. Proceeds will go to the new pavilion under construction behind the church, and everyone is invited to stop in and tour the new facility, which will be available for use by area residents. St. Paul Catholic, Norwalk

The St. Paul parish festival will be from 5 to 11 p.m. today and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. There will be food, games, rides, corn hole tournament, silent auction, live entertainment and a raffle with a grand prize of $10,000. Chicken dinners will be served all day Sunday and carry-outs will be available. Blood pressures will be taken at the health ministry booth from noon to 6 p.m.

The rosary will be recited at the church at 1 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

St. Peter Lutheran, Norwalk

This church will have its regular worship services at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Those attending can bring items for the Norwalk food bank.

The Rev. Fred Wiechers and Martin Hanke will be attending the Worship Jubilee in Chicago and Wiechers will be staying for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American churchwide assembly.

The seventh-grade catechism class will be going on a day trip to Kelleys Island Aug. 11. Bike riding, hiking and Bible study are some of the activities planned for the day.

Fitchville UMC

FITCHVILLE This church is having one worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday. This special Sunday is the final of Vacation Bible School. The theme was "Boot Camp for Jesus. The children learned Bible stories and were challenged by an obstacle course, ate military food, sang praise music and made a large American flag, plus made thank-you notes to soldiers and many more crafts. All family and friends were invited for a program followed by a supper of military food. The children will sing at the 9 a.m. service. All area military and veterans are invited to attend. There will be a special program starting with the area honor guard and ending with "Taps."

First United Methodist, Norwalk

The church will host its fifth annual golf scramble at Woussickett Golf Course, 6311 Mason Road, Sandusky, on Sept. 8, for anyone interested in playing while helping the church. Proceeds will be used for maintenance projects on the historic church building. The event will begin at 1 with a dinner to follow at the church, 60 W. Main St., Norwalk, at about 7 p.m. Prizes from the outing will be awarded at the dinner. People interested in playing in the scramble can play for $50 each or participate as a foursome for $200. The entry fee includes a golf cart, dinner and prizes. You can attend the church dinner for $8, and sponsorship at the event can be achieved with a donation anywhere between $50 and $500. United Baptist, Tiro

TIRO This church, located about a mile south of Tiro at 5205 Ohio 39, is having its 39th homecoming Sunday with special singers the Fishermen. The Rev. Vernon Smith will bring the morning message. Dinner will also be served.
