NEW LONDON The annual New London Community Palm Sunday Choir Fest will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church at 58 E. Main St. Choirs from the Ruggles Church, Our Lady of Lourdes and the Fitchville and Clarksfield United Methodist Churches will participate and refreshments will be served.
The church holds a J.a.M. (Jesus and Music) Session at 7 p.m. each Sunday, and everyone is encouraged to bring an instrument, a singing voice or just yourself to "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord."
The church is also collecting suitcases and traveling bags for Huron County foster children, and these can be delivered to the church or arrangements can be made to pick them up by calling (419) 929-4631.
STEUBEN Sunday is Passion Sunday. The scripture readings are Luke 19:28-40; Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29; Philippians 2:5-11; and Luke 22:14-23:56. The Rev. Patricia E. Welch, pastor and teacher, and lay members of the congregation will take worshippers on "A Walk Through Holy Week." Worship begins at 11 a.m. Large print and children's bulletins will be available.
Maundy Thursday is April 5. The 7 p.m. service will commemorate Jesus' celebration of the Passover with his disciples prior to his arrest and crucifixion. The scripture lessons are Exodus 12:1-4, (5-10), 11-14; Psalm 116:1-2, 12-19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; and John 13:1-7, 31b-35. At this service, the congregation will celebrate holy communion. Steuben church celebrates open communion.
First United Methodist, Norwalk
The Palm Sunday service includes communion and LOGOS choir. An egg-stravaganza will take place at fellowship hall following worship. Egg cookies, egg crafts, egg games and an egg hunt and a special visit from the Easter Bunny will also occur.
At 5:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday, drama and communion will take place.
A Good Friday community service will take place at 12:15 p.m. with a Tenebrae service at 7 p.m.
Easter services will take place at 6:30 a.m. with a son-rise service at Veterans Memorial Lake Park. There will also be 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday services at the church.
This church will begin it's holy week services with the distribution of palm at the 9 and 10:45 a.m. worship services. The Rev. Rzengota will continue with the Return to Narnia: Re-embracing our Redemption series with a message entitled "The Lion Comes." A new video trailer promoting the post Easter series "OT Heroes: Are You Next on the List" will also be shown.
The Edison show choir will present the music and story of GODSPELL at 7 p.m. in the worship center. A cookie reception will follow.
The Good Friday service is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will center around a family communion time.
