N.L. First Baptist

NEW LONDON This church, located at 432 Park Ave., is hosting a sweet fellowship banquet beginning at 5 p.m. today. Tickets are available at the church and from Eloise Hamilton at (419) 929-6843.

N.L. United Methodist

NEW LONDON The public is invited to soup and sandwich suppers from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at the church at 58 E. Main St. There is no charge.

St. Paul Catholic, Norwalk

Mass will be celebrated at 6:15, 8:30 and 10 a.m. and 5:30 and 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday.

St. Paul Episcopal

Weekly worship and Sunday school are at 8:30 a.m.

Ash Wednesday ship is at 7 p.m. on that day, and on Thursday a series of Lenten programs begin with a soup supper at 6:30 p.m. followed by Bible study.

First Presbyterian, Norwalk

This Sunday during the 10:45 a.m. worship service, Rev. Adrian Doll will continue in the ongoing sermons series, "Acts for Living." Marc Smith will be commissioned in prayer for a three-month assignment with Wycliffe Ministries working in Papua, New Guinea. During the 9:30 a.m. Sunday hour, Gretchen Hester will lead the ongoing adult class, "Don't Sing Songs to a Heavy Heart" at the Great Room.

The church will observe Shrove Tuesday, with a pancake supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at fellowship hall.

Lenten mid-week services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Ash Wednesday with a contemplative service of communion and will continue on Wednesdays through March 28. Pastors Doll, Clair Brewer, and invited guests will lead the Lenten study each week.

First United Methodist, Norwalk

This church, located at 60 W. Main St., has Sunday school at 9:15 a.m. and celebrates worship at 10:30. The sermon title is "Extra Ordinary Offering."

Blood pressure screening will take place after worship.

A Red Cross blood drive will take place at this church from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday.

The Naomi Ruth Circle will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The Wesleyan Circle will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The first Lenten breakfast will be at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at fellowship hall.

Clarksfield UMC

CLARKSFIELD This church, located at 5151 Zenobia Road, worships at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. It is Transfiguration Sunday which is the Sunday before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of lent. Rev. Patty Jo Sheldon's sermon will be "Jesus, who is He really?"

There will be a cabbage-roll dinner with homemade desserts, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday with youth serving to earn funds for the youth activities. Carryouts will be available.

STEUBEN Sunday is the Seventh Sunday after Epiphany. The scripture lessons, based on the theme "God's Glory," are Exodus 34:29-35; Psalm 99; 2 Corinthians 3:12-4:2; and Luke 9:28-36, (37-43). The Rev. Patricia E. Welch, pastor and teacher, will lead worship during the 11 a.m. service. Large print and children's bulletins will be available.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Steuben Church will gather for an Ash Wednesday service. This service begins the observance of Lent, a time of personal reflection as together people move toward Holy Week and Easter Sunday. The service will include the imposition of ashes and the celebration of the Lord's Supper, which is open to all Christians.

Norwalk Church of Christ

Sunday will feature lessons regarding the Parable of the Sower: Those attending will investigate the seed among thorns at 10:30 a.m. and the seed cast on the good soil at 6 p.m. This church also has Bible studies for all ages at 9:30 a.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m. Wednesday. St. Mary/St. Anthony

The annual St. Mary/St. Anthony parish mission, "A Tear in the Desert," by Rev. Ron Camarda, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at St. Mary. There will also be a 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday mission at St. Mary.

A talent show for God will be presented by students from both parishes at 7 p.m. today at St. Mary.

Ash Wednesday Masses will be celebrated at noon at St. Mary and 7 p.m. at St. Anthony.

A eucharistic minister training session for both parishes will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at St. Mary.

St. Peter Lutheran, Norwalk

This church will have 18 junior high youth, two junior guides and four adults in attendance this weekend at the junior high Youth Quake, a Christian weekend retreat for youth groups and their adult leaders, at Sawmill Creek, Huron.

Lent begins Ash Wednesday. This church will again offer two opportunities for mid-week worship during Lent at noon and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Lenten series this year is "These Lenten Roads." This Ash Wednesday is "The Road to Damascus", where life is given a new direction.

Fitchville UMC

FITCHVILLE This church will have a 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday service. There will be a special Lenten booklet passed out at Sunday's worship service and Wednesday's service.

The church is also involved with the sixth annual talent and servant auction at the New London school cafetorium at noon Feb. 24.
