I just got the news Chris Cornell will be playing the House of Blues in Cleveland on Nov. 11.
Cornell, formerly of Soundgarden and Audioslave, is touring in support of his new CD, "Carry On."
Tickets go on sale Friday and are $38.75 plus service charges.
I saw Cornell with Soundgarden in July 1992 at Blossom Music Center as part of the Lollapalooza '92 festival. I saw Soundgarden again in June 1994 at what was called Nautica in the Flats of Cleveland.
The common theme of both those shows, besides good music, was rain.
It poured at Lollapalooza '92 and rained steadily at the 1994 Nautica show.
Cornell, as lead singer for Soundgarden, sort of bothered me back then. It seemed he was always more interested in being "tough" than connecting with the audience.
I think things have changed a bit for the now 43-year-old. I heard a show of his from Germany from May of this year and he seemed happy to be playing and enjoying the interaction with the crowd. And the set list was great. It included much of his solo material, as well as songs from his Soundgarden and Audioslave days.
Songs that really stood out included "Spoonman," "Outshined," "Doesn't Remind Me" and a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean."
He also played a couple tunes from Temple of the Dog, which was a combination of himself and a couple members of Pearl Jam in the early 1990s.
I'm thinking of attending this Cornell concert. Its being held at the House of Blues is definitely a plus. I've said it before the House of Blues is a top-notch venue. It's clean and has good sound and I enjoy the valet parking service. I like having someone bring me my car after the concert. I know there's a charge for it, but it's worth it.
