Norwalk Reflector Staff • Oct 29, 2015 at 12:01 PM

WILLARD - Do you know what your cholesterol numbers are? You can find out. On Dec. 6 Mercy Hospital of Willard will be offering a cholesterol screening, which will include a total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, glucose and blood pressure. Participants will receive their results immediately and will be educated about the results. Twelve hours of fasting is recommended for the most accurate results. Diabetics should check with their physician before fasting.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women and men in the United States. Your blood cholesterol level has a lot to do with your chances of getting heart disease. High blood cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for this disease. The higher your blood cholesterol level, the greater your risk is for developing heart disease or having a heart attack.

High blood cholesterol itself does not cause symptoms, so many people are unaware that their cholesterol level is too high.

The cholesterol screening will be held at Mercy Hospital of Willard in the Wasserman Room from 7 to 10 a.m. Appointments are required for this screening. Cost for the screening is $20. Make your appointment by calling Mercy Hospital's centralized scheduler at (419) 964-5010.
