CHAMBER CHATTER - Chamber's legislative committee now in process of reactivating

Norwalk Reflector Staff • Oct 28, 2015 at 3:49 PM

The legislative committee of the Norwalk Area Chamber of Commerce is reactivating and we are very excited and fortunate to have Jeff Reed heading up the effort. In Jeff's words, "last fall's election and other pressing issues show we must be more proactive in making our views known to the public and legislators."

We couldn't agree more. While many people do not like politics and therefore don't get involved, the consequences are that someone else decides matters of importance for you and your business. We need to do a better job of organizing ourselves and using the strength that comes from standing together on issues. We will be holding an organizational meeting in a couple of weeks and if you or someone from your business would like to be involved please contact the office at (419) 668-4155.

Matchmaker 2007, Small Business Contracting Opportunities, is an event designed to hook up small businesses with federal agencies, city, state, local governments and prime private-sector contractors. This is a great way for your small business to get connected to potential clients via pre-scheduled meetings. There are also workshops to help you learn how to market your business to these big entities, obtaining financing and networking opportunities. Pre-registration is required and can be done online atwww.clevelandb2bmatchmaker.com/bmp. It will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 20 and 21 at Jacob's Field in Cleveland. Several of our area businesses have checked into attending and this event has huge potential for your small business.

Check out the Web site and if you have questions or need assistance call the office. I'll be glad to help.

Another upcoming event is the Ohio Safety Congress & Expo at the IX Center in Cleveland March 20 to 22. You can visit companies that deal with safety related products and services, take in workshops on topics ranging from keeping kids safe to first responder sessions. There's even extreme safety for the very experienced safety professionals. The event is free. If you'd like the actual program of the event stop in the office or check out BWC's Web site atwww.ohiobwc.com, click on Safety Services, Safety Congress. You can pre-register online or at the door.

Over the course of the past couple of weeks there have been several instances where members have utilized one of our benefits and saved significant dollars. One member has signed up for our local and long distance phone program and will save about $300 per month $3,600 over the course of the year, well worth looking into! Another member used our bulk stamp benefit and saved about $60 on just one mailing. Our member-only benefits add up fast and we want you to use every inch of your membership for the betterment of your business.

If you are not a member yet, we can fix that! Stop in the office at 10 W. Main St. or call for a packet of information. This is a great way to do business and we would appreciate the opportunity to show you how being part of the Chamber can really make a difference to your business.
