Whitney Field in Norwalk will host the “Showdown of Huron County” with a pair of games this weekend to close out the 2007 regular season.
Norwalk will host Willard Friday night at 7:30 in a battle of Northern Ohio League teams, while St. Paul entertains Monroeville at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a winner-take-all fight for the Firelands Conference crown.
The Truckers, 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the NOL, defeated Bellevue earlier in the season — their first win in Bellevue since 1949.
A win Friday over Willard would give Norwalk a sweep over their two Huron County opponents this season.
Willard, 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the NOL, lost 44-12 Friday at Bellevue.
A league title and all kinds of playoff possibilities will be on the line Saturday night in the annual “Fish vs. Farmers” showdown.
St. Paul, 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the FC, already has clinched a playoff spot and can secure a home game along with the conference title by winning.
The Eagles, 6-3 overall and 6-0 in the FC, can clinch a playoff spot as well as the crown with a victory.
St. Paul currently is ranked No. 2 in Division VI, Region 21, behind leader Hopewell-Loudon.
Monroeville is ranked seventh in the same region with the top eight teams advancing to the playoffs.
If the playoffs were held today, Monroeville would be making a return trip to Whitney Field to meet the Flyers.
