NEW LONDON — Boy Scouts from Troop 217, along with their leader Terry Knudsen, attended Monday's council meeting to see local government in action.

Knudsen said several of the boys are looking for Eagle Scout projects, so if the village has any that might fit the bill to let him know.

Village Administrator Shawn Tappel reported spring cleanup will be April 30 to May 4, and the cleaning of the creek at Buckeye Street has begun.

Also, plans are being made to implement a drug-free work place for village employees, which will involve education and random drug testing. Tappel said this will eventually save the village money for workers comp premiums.

Water Superintendent John Chapin said hydrants will be flushed Wednesdays and Thursdays in April.

Council was told the Vietnam War memorial has arrived, and a committee was formed to determine where it will be erected in Monument Park.

Clerk Jonna Rowland said applications for the janitorial position at village hall will be taken until April 9.
