MILAN — Residents overwhelmingly re-elected Robert C. Bickley as mayor Tuesday. He defeated challenger Annie Downing by a 70 to 30 percent margin in Huron County, and a 72 to 27 percent margin in Erie County.

“I’m happy with the support and I’ll continue to serve like I have for the last four years,” said Bickley, who’s been mayor for 28 years.

He attributed his lopsided victory to votes of confidence.

“You just don’t earn this job overnight,” he said.

Bickley said he wants to continue improving Milan’s infrastructure

In an apparent swipe at Downing, Bickley said, “It’s just kind of hard to believe that someone can put their name on a ballot (who has) never been to a council meeting.

“I’ve never seen her at a council meeting.”

Downing could not be reached for comment.
