BREAKING NEWS - Miss Maple City takes the crown

MANSFIELD - Call her Miss Maple City no longer. Roberta Camp shall henceforth be known as Miss Ohio.

The Grove City resident has won the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program, according to that organization's Web site.

Norwalk's representative in the state-wide competition scored well in previous events.

Tuesday night Camp took the Artistic Expression honor and a $700 scholarship from Richland Bank, sing ing "Blessed." This phase of competition is based on a contestant's preparation, performance skills and personality, as well as technical excellence. The Artistic Expression portion of the competition represents 35 percent of a contestant's score.

Wednesday night, Camp won the Lifestyle and Fitness preliminary honor and a $500 scholarship from Constance Care Home Healthcare. This phase of competition focuses on maintaining a healthful, positive lifestyle. A contestant's drive, energy and charisma are factors in the judging of this category. The Lifestyle and Fitness competition represents 15 percent of a contestant's score.

Camp, 23, attended The Ohio State University and her platform is "Change Our World: Build Character." Her platform description describes it thus: "Good character is necessary to successfully meet life's challenges. But it doesn't just happen. It's up to all of us to teach young people what's right from wrong."

Her hobbies are singing, writing lyrics, blogging, volunteering, snowboarding, (bargain) shopping and collecting "old" movies.
