Delbert Crawford to be installed as Elks ruler

Installation of officers will take place at the Elks Club at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to be followed by a buffet supper, it was announced today by Jack Orebaugh, installing officer.

Delbert Crawford, city council president, will be installed as exalted ruler and John Arthur as leading knight.

Other officers to be installed are William Kramer, loyal knight; Arthur Ford, lecturing knight; Fred King, Tyler; Milton Justice, secretary; Ralph Poth, treasurer; and F.L. Schneider, trustee for five years.

Mr. Crawford will succeed Earl Miller Jr. as exalted ruler.

Installations will be in charge of past exalted rulers who will be in charge of ceremonies in the following capacities: Rev. Thomas J. Quinlan, exalted ruler; Van Bateham, leading knight; Walter Williams, loyal knight; J.W. Pitkin, lecturing knight; Paul Wetzel, esquire, and Resse Lawyer, inside guard.

Three-day deer hunt in county planned for this fall

A promotion was launched today by the Ohio Division of Wildlife for a three-day deer hunting season in Huron County, it was announced by County Game Warden O.F. Caldwell.

Mr. Caldwell, who stated that the deer population in the county numbers around 300, said the herd is too excessive and that controls must be instituted as a measure of safety, economy and conservation.

The game warden cited the hundreds of dollars spent annually for auto repairs resulting from highway collisions with deer, the damage committed to crops, orchards and nurseries. In Huron County there were 24 deer reported killed on the highways during the past two years.

Service news

Cpl. Ford Watts of the Hq. Btry. 35th F.A. Group, who has been stationed in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany, for the past four months, will spend a 15-day leave with relatives in Trowbridge, England. He entered the Army Aug. 8, 1951.

A 3-c Robert C. Pfeiffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Pfeiffer of 39 Chatham St., has been transferred from Sheppard AFB, Witchita Falls, Texas, to Chanute AFB, Ill. He spent a few days at the home of his parents enroute to his new base.

Double parker

Carl A. Carlson, 45, Vermilion, was fined $5 and costs yesterday for double parking on Whittlesey in the business district.
