Dr. Charles Edel named coroner by commissioners
Dr. Charles H. Edel, of this city, was appointed to the office of county coroner by the Huron County Commissioners, it was announced today by Harry Jump, chairman.
Dr. Edel, succeeding the late Dr. Jay D. Bradish, New London, who was killed in an auto crash last Saturday morning, served as assistant county coroner for the past two years. He came to Norwalk in Sept. 1945, following 12 years with the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army.
15 youths included in latest draft call
Fifteen youths, including two from Norwalk, will be included in the May quota of the draft from Huron County.
The Norwalkians are Albert Caprara, 31 Jefferson, and Richard Doney, 40 Chatham St.
Others in the quota are: Gene M. Cherry, Roger D. Enright, both of Monroeville; George A. Harshberger, Cleveland, formerly of Monroeville.
Walter G. Bahr, R.D., Berlin Heights; Glen E. Weaver, Bellevue; George Umbel, Brownsville, Pa., formerly of Bellevue; Clarence Pack, Williamsport, Ky., formerly of Willard.
Duane C. Smith and Herbert C. Anderson, New London; Kindle Shepherd, Charles E. Reed and Harley E. Austin, Willard.
Beta Sigma Phi celebrated 20th Founders Day
The Twentieth Founder's Day was celebrated by the two local chapters of Beta Sigma Phi with a banquet at Rawin's Grille, Wednesday evening, April 25th, The tables were lovely with their spring flower decorations.
After dinner the following program was presented with Mrs. Kenneth Baker as Toastmistress; Welcome to Pledges, Mrs. C.T. Williams; Our Twentieth Anniversary, Janet Miller; Prayer, Mrs. H.S. Bowen, Message form International, Mrs. Wm. Schug; Founders Day Pledge, Mrs. Claude Martin Jr.; Toast to Faith, Mildred Lyons; Toast to Courage, Jane Richardson; Prize winning song, Margaret Avery and Mary Fenner.
Pfc. T. Brutsche suffers wounds in Korean War
Word has been received that Pfc. Thomas R. Brutsche, son of E.S. Brutsche, 15 St. Mary's St., has been wounded in action while on combat duty north of Seoul. He has been removed to a hospital ship in the harbor of Pusan for surgery.
The extent of his injuries is not known, but is it believed they are serious.
