Lead safety

Ohio Lead Awareness Week is an annual lead awareness campaign during the third full week of July.

Health and safety officials work to promote lead awareness and organize lead poisoning prevention activities. Although the number of children with lead poisoning has been declining, the risk is still great because Ohio has 2.5 million homes with lead-based paint.

Children who are lead poisoned do not always show any symptoms. The damage, however, can last a lifetime. This is why testing at-risk children under the age of 6 is crucial — and the law. For more information, visit www.cdc.gov and search for the publication “Preventing Lead Poisoning in Young Children” in PDF form.

Baby patent

The U.S. Baby Patent Office (USBPO), a non-existent government entity, celebrated its first year service anniversary of offering parents, friends, and family across the United States the opportunity to commemorate the birth of a child by purchasing an individually numbered Baby Patent from www.USBaby-Patent.com.

Starting at $5.99, this certificate is printed on high-quality white or parchment-colored paper and incorporates the name of the child, birthday and parents. Each patent is signed by the commissioner of baby patents and the chief patent examiner.

Framing the certificate creates a unique nursery decoration and proud parent memento for the office, according to the company.
