A Lorain man was scheduled to be arraigned today on two drug felonies in connection having marijuana shipped to him from Texas.

Joe Rowser, 41, was charged with possession of marijuana and trafficking in marijuana after Erie County sheriff's detectives made a controlled delivery Thursday, Capt. Paul Sigsworth said. The defendant was being held without bond at the Erie County Jail until his hearing this morning in Huron Municipal Court.

"The presumption is he was going to sell it," Sigsworth said. "The box was being shipped to Motel 6."

Workers at the UPS shipping facility in Milan Township were trying to establish the correct address where the package was going to be mailed because one number was missing after the label was torn during delivery, Sigsworth said. The package was about 24 inches long, 12 inches high and 18 inches wide. Employees opened the box in order to see if there was a mailing address inside.

"When they opened it up and saw it what it was, they called us right away," Sigsworth said.

Rowser earlier "served some substantial prison time" for a federal trafficking in cocaine conviction and a Columbus-based aggravated trafficking in drugs charge, Sigsworth said.
