MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Symphony Chorus has announced the appointment of Brian Nabors as interim director of the ensemble through the end of the 2018-2019 OhioHealth Symphony Series season.

Nabors will lead the group in preparation for the May 12 “Joyous Finale” concert with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra.

The first half of the May concert will feature music from Renaissance Artisitic Director Michael Thomas’ original production Sentimental Journey, a reflective tribute to the sacrifices of the “the greatest generation,” using songs, narration, and letters from the front of the World War II era.

Selections will include a powerful mix of styles, ranging from themes from “Band of Brothers”, “Lux Aeterna”, and “I’ll Be seeing You” to an impressive “Battle Hymn of the Republic” finale. The second half of the program will feature Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. V, performed by the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Octavio Mas-Arocas.

The group is accepting new members in preparation for the May 12th concert. Those interested in joining the chorus should email Brian Nabors at [email protected] Choral rehearsals begin March 11 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road, Mansfield.
