This will be a free coffeehouse event from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Willard Christian Alliance Church, 1609 S. Conwell Ave., Willard.
Guitars For Vets was founded to help the thousands of war veterans who are afflicted with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In fact, more soldiers have committed suicide since the Vietnam War than have died in actual battle. But many are finding hope in an unlikely place: behind the wood and strings of an acoustic guitar. The healing power of music helps soldiers cope. Guitars For Vets provides veterans with guitars and a forum to learn how to play. Donations to this organization will be accepted at the coffeehouse event.
Holida chose this organization to raise funds for as part of his senior project. He has been playing guitar himself for about 10 years and is very passionate about music and the power it has to provide happiness, comfort and a release for people. Holida learned about the non-profit organization through fellow performers and decided he wanted to help in any way he could.
Holida has been a regular performer at the Imagine Norwalk events the past two years and has performed at Berry’s Restaurant. Along with Holida, there are some great area musicians who will be performing. Bob Cox, a long-time Willard resident and well-known performer, will be playing, along with The Divots, who perform all around the state. Doug Neel, a musician and college music instructor, will also be sharing his musical talents during the evening.
Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy the great music, free refreshments and learn about Guitars For Vets. For additional information, contact Ben Holida at 567-224-8398.
