Smith Paving & Excavating Inc. was awarded the construction bid for the Norwallk curb project Monday.

The board of control approved Smith Paving & Excavating to work on the $76,883 project that will repair the curb areas from Christie and Norwood avenues to Shady Lane Drive.

Curbs and streets that need the most attention are selected annually for repair and are funded by federal and local grants, according to the public works department website.

Following a June 17 “pre-construction” meeting with the contractor, area inspector, interim public works director Wally Ritchie and Norwalk Mayor Duncan, the work could start as early as the second week of July — to not affect the Independence Day parade route — but is contractually obligated to finish by Aug. 1.

The board of control meeting was attended by city council president Steve Euton, Ritchie, finance director Michelle Reeder, board of control clerk Lynne Jenkins and Duncan.
