StoryWalk to debut Aug. 20 at Sofios Family Park in Norwalk

By STEPHANIE SANDERS • Aug 1, 2018 at 12:04 PM

The Norwalk Public Library has announced a new story will become available at the StoryWalk, an interactive reading adventure found at Sofios Family Park, 38 N. Old State Road, in Norwalk.

Thanks to a special collaboration with the Norwalk Parks and Recreation Department, StoryWalk allows families to enjoy a new picture book each season while strolling along the Sofios Park boardwalk. Children will love this season’s story, “Chicks and Salsa” by Aaron Reynolds. Activities along the path will get the whole family involved in this zany adventure; What happens when the chickens at Nuthatcher Farm grow tired of the same old chicken feed?

Rain or shine, the library is inviting readers of all ages to join them at 10 a.m. Aug. 20 for an unveiling of the new story. The event will feature light refreshments and a live reading. Those unable to attend the story unveiling can visit the StoryWalk at any time to enjoy this season’s story.

In May, the StoryWalk premiered with the Jon Klassen story “I Want My Hat Back.” Since its debut, hundreds have enjoyed the first experience and have expressed excitement for a new story.

A great success for libraries across the nation, the StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson, of Montpelier, Vt. and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.

The library is seeking sponsors for their next StoryWalk experience. Local businesses and families are encouraged to contact the library at 419-668-6063 if they are interested in helping the library with the costs of printing, production and maintenance of the StoryWalk.
