Norwalk kids’ fishing derby is Saturday

Activities abound at the Rec:

Fishing Derby - The annual Norwalk kids’ fishing derby is Saturday. The free event will be held at the Veterans Memorial Lake Park (north entrance) for children 2 to 17 years, starting at 8 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for many categories. Participants must bring their own pole. Children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Movies at the Outdoor Pool - New this year!. Come swim until sunset, starting at 8 p.m. Bring your own yard blanket and snacks and watch a family-friendly movie on the big screen. Movies will be announced. On Friday, swimming starts at 8 p.m.; movie begins at sunset. Cost is $3 per person, age 3 and under are free.

Yoga - A new Hatha Yoga class is now available on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. These tranquil sessions are based on ASANAS and use deep breathing to help you listen to your body so that you leave refreshed. No previous yoga experience required. A yoga mat is recommended. Session registrations or drop-in participants are welcome.

12th Annual Maple City Triathlon/Duathlon - Just Tri/Du It at 8 a.m. Aug. 4 at the beautiful Veterans Memorial Lake Park provided by Norwalk Parks & Recreation Department. This is a great race for the first time triathletes and duathletes, as it is set in a non-competitive environment. The triathlon event will consist of an 800-yard swim, 16-mile bike, and 3.1 mile run. For more information and race fees, visit www.norwalkrec.com. Registration deadline is Aug. 1. Swimming Lessons - Next session of swim lessons will start July 30. Registration will start at 5:30 p.m. July 20 for members and at 8 a.m. July 21 for all others. A placement test will be held at 5 p.m. July 20. Day classes will be held Monday -Thursday mornings for all levels. Evening classes will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings. Cost is $10 for the first 60 participants. Thereafter the cost is $35 per child. Detailed information available at the front desk or at www.norwalkrec.com.
