NEW LONDON — Retired New London farmer Gerald Hanko recently lost a 200-year-old ash tree in his yard on Fayette Road because of an infestation by the emerald ash borer.
He contacted Jacob Smith, a chainsaw carver from Clyde, and the result is a 15-foot high, 67-inch diameter ear of corn painted bright yellow and green. The carving is clearly visible from the road.
