He had served on the cooperative’s board of trustees for more than 31 years. Appointed to an open seat in 1986, Kreager went on to be selected as vice president in 1999.
In 2016, Kreager successfully completed his Director Gold program offered through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). This credential recognizes directors who have earned their Credentialed Cooperative Director and Board Leadership Certificate credentials, and are committed to continuing their education throughout their service on the cooperative’s board.
Kreager was a strong advocate for Firelands Electric Cooperative and the members of District 2. He always believed in the importance of co-op people at the national and local levels working together as one with a “member-first” focus that’s responsive to member needs.
“Kreager always valued his relationships with legislators and looked after the best interests of our rural members,” said April Bordas, Firelands Electric’s general manager. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Lowell and we express our deepest sympathy. Everyone who works with Firelands Electric is a member of the cooperative family, and we are all saddened by this loss.”
A retired vocational agriculture teacher with South Central Local Schools who lived in the rural Greenwich area, Kreager worked for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Statistics Service and The Ohio Seed Improvement Association. He was a restored antique tractor enthusiast who liked to attend shows.
Kreager always enjoyed spending time with family, including his three grown children and six grandchildren living in Ohio and Maryland.
