State patrol investigating fatal pedestrian crash

(UPDATED at 6:05 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2017) The victim, Anthony W. Rocca, lived at 2481 U.S. 224 Greenwich.

Huron County Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Harwood said the “preliminary exam” shows Rocca’s death was caused by multiple blunt force traumas.

Harwood also said it's hard to determine at this point whether Rocca died instantly. If not, his death would have occurred within a few minutes after being hit.

(ORIGINAL post) The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Norwalk Post is investigating a three-vehicle fatal pedestrian crash which occurred 7:30 p.m. Wednesday The crash occurred on US 224 near milepost 18 in Greenwich Township.

Anthony W. Rocca, 26, of Greenwich, was a pedestrian on U.S. 224. Rocca died as a result of the crash. He was transported by North Central EMS to Eastman Funeral Home in New London.

Randy A June, 56, of Greenwich, was driving a 2015 Volvo Semi tractor trailer eastbound on U.S. 224. June sustained no injuries as a result of the crash. The commercial vehicle was driven from the scene with functional damage.

Travis A. Thompson, 17, of Greenwich, was driving a silver 2002 Pontiac Grand Am westbound on U.S. 224. Thompson sustained no injuries as a result of the crash and was wearing his safety belt. His 2002 Pontiac sustained functional damage and was towed from the scene by Jensen’s Towing.

Megan L Cornish, 22, of North Fairfield, was driving a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on U.S. 224. Cornish sustained no injuries as a result of the crash and was wearing her safety belt. Her 2013 Jeep was towed from the scene by Jensen’s Towing.

June was traveling eastbound on U.S. 224 and struck Rocca with the left front portion of his semi-tractor. Thompson and Cornish were both traveling westbound on U.S. 224 and also struck Rocca. After striking Rocca, Thompson’s vehicle came to final rest in the ditch on the north side of U.S. 224. During the investigation it was discovered that Rocca was in the roadway when struck by all three vehicles. Rocca was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Huron County Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol/drug involvement are unknown for Rocca and toxicology results are pending. Alcohol/drug were not contributing factors for the three drivers.

Assisting on scene were Tri-County Fire Department, North Central EMS, Jensen’s Towing, ODOT, and Huron County Sheriff’s Department.
