By Norwalk Reflector Staff • Aug 23, 2018 at 12:01 PM

A first-time author debuting his mystery novel is one of the many September events at the Norwalk Public Library.

Join Norwalk resident Cary Ashby for a book signing and author event at 7 p.m. Sept. 10. He will share excerpts from his debut novel, “Colt Maverick,” and will answer readers’ questions. Since 2004, Ashby has been a Norwalk Reflector staff writer.

On the first Tuesday of every month, the library busts out the bricks. LEGO Day is at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 4. All ages are welcome to build and compete.

Children ages 0 to 5 can attend “Story Time” every Thursday at 11 a.m. This month’s dates are Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27.

All ages are welcome to attend “Story Knight,” a special medieval-themed story time at 7 p.m. Sept. 12. Princesses, knights and dragons will craft, enjoy stories and play games.

“Music and Movement” is the perfect time to shake out the sillies. Children ages 0 to 5 are invited to join the library every other Friday. This month's times are at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 14 and 28.

Participants in the Battle of the Books will meet for practice at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17.

Adults are invited to a night of poured acrylic painting at 6 p.m. Sept. 19. Participants will learn how to do this marbled technique on vintage records. Sign up at the main desk.

Students in grades six through 12 are invited to hang out, play video games and do craft projects during “Teen Time” at 3 p.m. Sept. 20.

Participants in the Battle of the Books will compete at the Sandusky Public Library at 1 p.m. Sept. 22. All are invited to come cheer us on.

Banned Books Week is Sept. 24 through 29. Celebrate the freedom to read all week long. The library will have special displays, contests and scavenger hunts for all ages.

The Best Book Club Ever will meet at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 24. Students in grades three through five will explore this month’s book with games, crafts, and discussion. Pick up your copy in the children’s room today.

The library is closed Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day and will reopen at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 4. The book and A/V drops remain open for your convenience. Check out the Hoopla and Libby apps to download books, movies, music and more — even when the library is closed.
