Is the government working for you?

NOTE: The following letter to the editor was submitted by Ken Svitak of Norwalk.

Being a retired techie, a veteran, a grandfather and an American I have become dissatisfied completely with our government’s ineffectiveness.

It’s just not logical, until one looks at Why. Everything is totally dependent on the money. The government has been made puppets of those with the cash, while the rest of us work like the devil to be more today than we were yesterday. I have lived slightly above poverty with a few good years. Now I live in torment of the future perspective of our country and the world.

But instead of apathy I sought solution. Occupy was first and upon subsequent endeavors I came upon Represent Us, a non-partisan, non-profit national organization devoted, with resolve, to ending corruption in our government. Represent Us is a grassroots organization that engages volunteers to change laws via the ballot initiative, which allows “we the people” to go around legislatures, starting locally, advancing to state and then finally the federal government.

I jumped on the bandwagon in 2013 and am happy doing so; knowing that I am part of something bigger than myself; cognizant that my contribution to the effort that has led to 103 Anti-Corruption Acts and Resolutions in cities and states across the country. A newly formed Represent Us Chapter was launched recently, namely, Represent North Western Ohio, [email protected], which has sparked an even higher resolution on my part to do what I can for our wellbeing.

Meeting of the Represent North Western Ohio shall be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Sheri’s Coffee House, 27 Whittlesey Ave. Represent Us has also recently launched an online community powered by Discord, a simple-to-use communications platform. It allows organizers and volunteers to interact with each other, learn about the issues, and discuss solutions — all from the comfort of home. You can join a conversation, check out the book club, and get trained on how to make calls for our nationwide phone bank. One can find out so much more at www.represent.us and become part of something great. I’ll bet You can contribute ideas and/or activities that will enhance our performance and outcomes by checking out Represent Us and maybe even testing the waters. There is much to do to unrig the system.
