Wind power opponents stand against local small farms

• Updated Oct 4, 2018 at 8:29 AM

NOTE: The following letter to the editor was submitted by Ken Stockmeister Sr. of Attica:

When people in my community oppose the Republic Wind project, they are hurting small farmers.

It is getting too hard to compete with big farming corporations. The supplemental income we can receive by participating in a wind project can keep us afloat. I have been working outside of the farm for the last 30 years plus farming on the side to keep the farm from going under. That time could have been spent with my family.

It’s not about getting rich, it’s about spending time with my family. With supplemental payments from being a project participant, I won’t have to spend as many hours working outside of the farm which will help me be more available for those I love.
