Community steps up (again) to help others

NOTE: Judy Sommers and Reta Stark of the Stuff the Bus committee submitted the following letter to the editor:

Way to go Norwalk. On behalf of the board of Project Leadership of Huron County we would like to thank the Norwalk community for its overwhelming support of our “Stuff the Bus” initiative. We were able to fill 328 book bags with the supplies that our children need to begin the first day of their new school year because of the community’s generosity.

The outpouring of school supplies and donations from the entire Norwalk community was so heartwarming.

This project began nine years ago and has continued to grow as the need continues.

All of these children’s parents did have to prove their financial need in order for these 328 children to receive their book bags filled with school supplies required at their respective grade levels.

We are so grateful to the community that your support allowed for so many children to go off to school happy and confident that they have the supplies that they need. Thank you for your support of this very successful project. We would also like to thank all of the volunteers, including the retired teachers, as well as St. Paul High School junior Sara Scavuzzo for your time and dedication to stuffing the bus with school supplies.

Finally, we would like to thank The Salvation Army staff for its willingness to assist with the distribution of the school supplies.
