Patrol: Drugs, alcohol suspected in serious injury crash

CLARKSFIELD TWP. — A serious one-vehicle injury crash Sunday in Clarksfield Township remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Alcohol and/or drugs are suspected as factors in the accident involving Nova resident George Gnage III, troopers said. Nova is near New London in Ashland County. 

Gnage, 28, who was wearing his seat belt, suffered incapacitating injuries and a LifeFlight helicopter flew him from the scene to the MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to a news release. 

He was driving a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck south on Ohio 60 just before 7 p.m. Troopers said he went off the left side of the road, hit a utility pole, sign and cable box before the truck came to rest in a ditch.

The New London Volunteer Fire Department, Citizens Ambulance, Service the Huron County Sheriff’s Office and Norb’s North Side Services assisted the patrol at the scene.
