CLEVELAND — Crime Stoppers of Cuyahoga County increased the cash reward to $7,500 for anybody who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver of an SUV that police believe struck and severely injured a Cleveland police officer Saturday morning.

The patrol officer, who has still not been identified, was struck about 4 a.m. near the intersection of West 9th Street and West Superior Avenue in downtown Cleveland’s Warehouse District police said.

The officer suffered multiple broken ribs, which were treated at the hospital and he was later released. Since then, however, the officer has been readmitted to the hospital, Cleveland Police Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said. The reason for readmission was not disclosed.

The vehicle that investigators suspect struck the officer is a 2019 white Jeep Compass, which should have heavy front-end damage because of the collision, police said.

Anybody with information regarding the incident or the vehicle’s whereabouts is encouraged to send tips to Crime Stoppers by calling or texting 216-252-7436 or contact Cleveland Police’s Third District detective bureau at 216-623-5318.
