A Greenwich man was killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon in Fairfield Township.

C. L. Jones, 75, was driving a 2004 Dodge Dakota west on Ohio 162 at 5:46 p.m. when he stopped the vehicle and began to exit it. A westbound 2017 Blue Bird school bus then struck the pickup truck in the rear and the driver as he was exiting, said troopers with the Norwalk post of the state Highway Patrol.

The collision pushed the pickup off the north side of the road, while the bus traveled off the south side, troopers said.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was transported to Eastman Funeral Home in Greenwich, troopers said.

The bus driver, Rosalie A. Keesy, 47, of Willard, suffered minor cuts and abrasions as a result of the crash, trooper said. She was treated at the scene by Willard EMS and later released.

In addition to personnel from Willard EMS and the funeral home, troopers were assisted at the scene by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfield Township Fire Department, Huron County Coroner’s Office, Wilcox Towing and Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).

Ohio 162, between North Fairfield and New State roads, remained closed for several hours as crews investigated and cleared debris. The road was reopened by 10 p.m., according to ODOT.

Troopers said alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
